The Touareg use leather boxes to store incense, makeup, creams or valuable items such as jewelry. The craftsmen cut pieces of leather, soak them until they soften. The wooden structure of the box is covered by the treated leather. Finally, they draw detailed geometric patterns on the ready-made box. Leather was perhaps the most important material in everyday Saharan life.
